Month = number + 月 (一月 January … 十二月 December); day = number + 號 (spoken) or 日 (written): 八月十一號 = August 11th · 一月十號/一月十日. Year–month–day, biggest unit first.

Replace the number with 幾: 今天是幾月幾號？ (What’s the date today?) · 你今年幾歲？ (How old are you this year?) · 你的手機是幾號？ (Lesson 7). The answer slots straight in.

Age needs no linking verb: S + number + 歲 — 我十七歲 · 小美今年十八歲 (Xiaomei is eighteen this year) · 我二十歲，你呢？ 二十三歲。

Attach to a statement to suggest or ask permission: 你請我去吃大餐，好不好？ (Treat me to a fancy meal, okay?) · 我要一雙運動鞋，可以嗎？ · 媽媽，我想去公園玩，可以嗎？ Answers: 好，沒問題 · 可以.

S + 要 + noun states a want: 我要一雙運動鞋 (I want a pair of sneakers) · 你要什麼生日禮物？ Add 還: 你還要什麼？ (What else do you want?) — and 請 as a verb means “to treat”: 你請我去吃大餐.
